17 thermal springs arise at the Graukogel - Bad Gastein´s local mountain
The discovery of the thermal springs took place in the 7th century.
Analysis has shown that rainwater near the Graukogel and Hüttenkogel seeps into the soil at about 1.800 m sea-level, falls below 2.000m, warms up and re-emerges at the Badberg out of 17 springs with a capacity of five million liters per day. The thermal water is slightly mineralized, contains radon and has a themperature of 44 - 47°Celsius.
The main water source will be collected at the pump container next to the power station and further transported to the hotels.
Due to hygiene regulations it´s only allowed to visit one spring - the Elisabeth-spring within a guided tour. (Wednesdays at 3.30 pm. Meeting point at the Gastein Museum).
A visit of the Elisabeth Spring is possible every Wednesday within the Historical Walk.
