Guided Hike: Schuhflicker

For leisurely hikers:
Walking time: ca. 4,5 hours, 400 meters of ascent, 1,5 hours / 935 meters of descent, 3 hours

Towering high above Dorfgastein, the striking peak of the Schuhflicker dominates the eastern flank of the valley with its distinctive pointed shape. The hike begins at the mountain station of the Gipfelbahn Fulseck, where the trail follows the scenic Biotope Path to the Arltörl. From here, breathtaking panoramic views unfold, but the true highlight lies even higher up.

The trail winds up the mountainside in gentle switchbacks, passing the Wetterkreuz, before finally reaching the summit of the Schuhflicker. From the top, a stunning 360-degree view stretches across the majestic Hochkönig, the Bernkogel, the imposing Großglockner, and the Ankogel Group. Along the way, an old legend adds a mystical touch to the landscape: the name “Schuhflicker” originates from the tale of a shoemaker who was punished for his gossiping and turned to stone.

After an extended summit break, the descent follows the same route back to the Arltörl. From there, the trail continues through a picturesque forest to the Heumoosalm, where a well-earned rest and traditional refreshments await. Re-energized, the hike follows the Mushroom Trail towards the mid-station of the Gipfelbahn Fulseck, where the tour concludes with a relaxing gondola ride back down to the valley.

Good equipment and mountain/hiking boots are absolutely necessary!
